Lew Alquist show at ASU

A show of six pieces by the late sculptor Lewis Alquist will open at the Arizona State University Harry Wood Gallery on February 6, 2006. It will run for one month. Lew's widow, Jane Pleak, will attend the opening.
There is also a new scholarship in honor of Lew. The Lewis Alquist Memorial Art Scholarship is the work of the Georgia Southern University Foundations Department. This scholarship will enrich the opportunities of the sculpture students and offer a stipend for their art supplies. The fund is steadily growing and hopefully will be fully endowed in the next few years. The first of these scholarships will be offered at the opening of the new art gallery at Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in Statesboro, Georgia. Send contributions, made payable to the Georgia Southern University Foundation, to

I just discovered this site looking for a little inspiration from my old mentor and felt compelled to leave a comment if anyone is out there to see. First of all, thank you for organizing this site as a vestige of sorts for the image of Lew's life and work. I just graduated in 2005 from ASU with my BFA and am now studying for my MFA at Long Beach State thanks very much to Lew's instruction, conversations, and inspiration. In a sense, Lew enabled me to work with what I knew about technology in the creation of my artistic practice. He quite simply changed my world. As I continue to teach my own students about technology and art, Lew will always be there for me. Again, thank you for the creation of this site and all my best to Jane and everyone else for whom Lew had such a profound impact.

I found this site by accident - Lew taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago while I was an undergraduate there - while I didn't study with him, many of my friends did. And I knew him. One of my favorite exhibits of his was at the old Randolph Street Gallery - it was a series of electric fans - they made each other turn on and off - it was absolutely hilarious. And thoughtful.
I had no idea he'd died - so this sort of threw me for a complete loop. I'm sorry to hear this. He was a good, decent man and one hell of an artist.

Oh how great to have a blog spot for Lew! I was just "Googling around" trying to find some images /videos or other links to pass on to a student.
Does anyone know if any of Lew's work is available on line?
